Come and discover the real East End of London, an area rich in history, full of contrasts and offering the chance for a day out with a difference. Please meet our guide for coffee at 10.30a.m. Then we set off on a guided walk of Spitalfields where the streets are lined with beautifully restored Huguenot weavers’ houses. Not many people realise that there are more early-Georgian buildings here than anywhere else in London. After lunch we drive through historic Whitechapel to the Ragged School Museum, housed in a 19th century Ragged School founded by Dr Barnardo, known for his Children’s Homes. You will sit in one of the original schoolrooms

 

as our guide tells you the story of the foundation, of Dr Barnardo’s work in the East End, and Victorian school life. There is time to explore the museum with its displays about East End working and living conditions. Finally there is time for tea before you leave for home by 4.45p.m.
