Londoners today enjoy going to the theatre. Back in Shakespeare's time things were no different and our tour starts off in Bankside, the hub of theatreland in the 16th century. Our guide will be waiting for you at 10.30a.m. Coffee has been booked in a historic galleried coaching inn where it's highly probable that Shakespeare, himself, performed. A gentle walking tour shows the origins of this medieval entertainment quarter and we see the magnificent reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the church where his brother is buried. From here we drive to Covent Garden in the heart

of today's theatreland. Here we break for lunch and then there is time for another gentle stroll with our guide to see 'the actor's church', the Royal Opera House and hear tales of a theatrical ghost or two. We visit the historic Theatre Royal, Drury Lane for a tour with a costumed guide who takes us back in time to meet important people from the theatre's past. We meet a range of fascinating characters from Grimaldi, the clown to Nell Gwynne, the king's mistress and actress. We end the day with a break for tea and you'll be leaving for home by 4.45p.m.
