This is a unique tour which allows us a look at the private world of the barristers of the Temple, an 18th century surgeon and a 19th century architect.
Our guide will meet you at 10.30a.m. for coffee. A short walk away, hidden behind Fleet Street is the secret world of the Temple where barristers have trained and practised for hundreds of years. Our tour takes in narrow lanes, an Elizabethan dining hall and whenever possible a visit of a Norman church.
After lunch we visit the Sir John Soane Museum and the Hunterian.
Sir John Soane, the architect was an inveterate collector of all sorts of treasures and antiquities and lived for much of his life in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Today in the

labyrinthine museum you move between the private family rooms and his collection just as when he lived here. Our guide will give an introduction to the museum and then there is time to explore on your own.
At the Hunterian you will hear all about the Scottish surgeon, John Hunter. Years ahead of his time, he worked on early experiments in transplantation and showed a humanity with his patients that was unknown in 18th century medicine. He, like Soane, was an inveterate collector, but of medical specimens. It is his collection — which does include human specimens — that we tour this afternoon.
Our day ends with a stop for tea before you set off for home by 4.45p.m.
