As Queen Victoria's favourite artist, Lord Leighton could afford to splash out a bit on his new London home. Within a conventional red-brick exterior he decided to go a bit wild and indulge his sense of the exotic. Leighton created a beautiful house full of Eastern splendour whose centre piece is the magnificent Arab Hall where he could show off his collection of Islamic tiles. After meeting our guide at 10.30a.m. in Kensington High Street for coffee we set off on a tour of

Leighton House which contains an important collection of Victorian art including works by Burne-Jones and Millais as well as Leighton, himself. After lunch our guide will take you on a walking tour of Notting Hill, one of London's most fashionable areas where many of today's 'beautiful' people live. It also has a colourful past and you will hear tales of piggeries and potteries, a forgotten racecourse, unusual shops and a carnival or two. After tea you will be leaving London by 4.30p.m.
