One of the joys of the City of London is its many historic churches. In the 18th century they were immortalised by the artist Canaletto and are still incredible in their variety. Our gentle walking tour will show you five very different churches, but don't worry, the total walking is less than a mile and there are plenty of chances to rest your feet during this delightful day out. You rendezvous with our guide at 10.30a.m. in the City of London. After coffee it is a short walk to our first church with its literary and theatrical connections. Next

we visit an historic church known as the 'Westminster Abbey of the City.' Here are the tombs of City luminaries like Sir Thomas Gresham, founder of the Royal Exchange and Sir William Pickering, Ambassador to Spain under Elizabeth I. We break for lunch in the Leadenhall Market area and in the afternoon visit two Wren churches and one closely associated with Samuel Pepys. We have our usual stop for tea before you leave for home at around 4.45p.m.
