Look in a big atlas and you can find thirty places called Cambridge around the world; we concentrate today on the original and best. Students fleeing here from riots in Oxford founded the second oldest university in England back in the early 1200s. Please meet our guide in Cambridge for coffee at 10.30a.m. Our morning includes a drive around town including a stop at the American Military Cemetery and a guided walk in the centre of town. A stroll past ancient colleges reveals fascinating stories of teachers and students past. Discoveries and thoughts hatched here really have changed the world. After lunch in Cambridge we drive the short distance to Anglesey Abbey, founded even before Cambridge

University. It was turned into a country house after the Reformation and owes its existence today to the vision of a rich American who became the first Lord Fairhaven. Buying the property in 1926 he spent the next forty years lavishing time and money on the house and grounds. Our guide will give you an introduction to both which you can then explore in your own time. There will be time for refreshments before you head home by 4.45p.m.

Or you can combine Cambridge with a visit to Ely Cathedral.
