A new town, an old town and an ancient monument all feature on this tour which combines walking, site visits and a coach drive. The day starts in Salisbury where you rendezvous with our guide for coffee at 10.30a.m. The morning includes a visit of the Cathedral, built to a single design over a very short period. Inside this great church a feeling of harmony and symmetry pervades. Outside the wonderful spire rises high into the sky, a magnificent landmark and inspiration for artists over the centuries. We also explore the medieval streets of this charming market town. Salisbury may not look like it, but is an early example of a purpose-

built new town. It is also a delightful place to have lunch. In the afternoon we drive to the site of Old Sarum. High up on this lonely hill stood the original Norman town with its castle and cathedral. Our guide will show you the remains of both. In the 13th century the decision was taken to move the town down into the valley below. Legend has it that an arrow was shot and where it landed the new town, Salisbury, was founded. We rejoin your coach to explore the beautiful Woodford Valley, one of the most idyllic and unspoilt parts of Wiltshire. We return to Salisbury just in time for tea. You’ll be heading for home by 4.45p.m.
