East Anglia, with its landscape that inspired John Constable, is our destination today. Here we see idyllic villages, historic towns and meandering rivers.
Our day starts at 10.30a.m. in Manningtree, Essex, the smallest town in England, where you meet our guide. In the tiny Georgian high street, overlooking the Stour, is the delightful pub where we have coffee.
From here we make our way into the heart of Constable country. We see the churches he painted and the gentle rolling landscape he loved and of which he said ‘these scenes made me a painter’. We drive on to Sudbury, the birthplace of the great portrait

artist, Gainsborough and still an important weaving town.
We stop for lunch in the beautiful medieval wool town of Lavenham, possibly the most photographed town in England. The streets are lined with timber-framed buildings some of which have a distinct lean to them. We defy you not to be enchanted.
Back on the coach for the final part of our tour. We pass through attractive Hadleigh, once ruled by a Viking chieftain. Our final destination is Flatford Mill where Constable spent much of his boyhood. This is the setting for several of his most famous paintings including ‘The Haywain’. Then it’s time for tea and you will be heading home by 4.45p.m.
