In William Cobbett’s famous book ‘Rural Rides’ he lamented the loss of country life in Surrey in the 19th century. Our Surrey tour is designed to show that even today rural Surrey is alive and well.
Our day begins in Cobbett’s home town of Farnham where you meet our guide at 10.30a.m. for coffee. You then enjoy a leisurely walking tour of this historic market town with its beautiful Georgian buildings and 12th century castle.
Then it’s back on the coach for a drive through picturesque villages and countryside to learn of monks of old, a field which was vital during the last World War and a cottage whose annual rent was one red

rose. We stop for lunch at the ancient town of Godalming where once lived a woman who convinced some of the country’s leading physicians that she had given birth to rabbits — our guide will explain!
Then it’s back on the coach for a ride around beautiful countryside and what now look to be sleepy villages but whose inhabitants once earned a living from cloth making, tanning and the iron industry.
One of these, Shere, is everyone’s idea of a perfect English village. Idyllic as it looks today it has a terrible secret of which you will learn more.
