For over two hundred and fifty years Hampton Court was a favourite palace of our royal family. Henry VIII spent five of his six honeymoons here and William and Mary spent a fortune turning it into their principal residence. Hampton Court is huge and it's possible to walk miles and still not see it all. Our guide will show you the best bits at a pace that is comfortable so that your visit will be enjoyable and entertaining but not exhausting. Please meet our guide at the Palace at 10.30a.m. for coffee. Henry VIII was ‘given’ the palace by Cardinal Wolsey and, though Henry was not known for his generosity, he was so keen to

move in that he paid his workmen overtime. Their efforts can be appreciated in the Great Hall and Chapel Royal of the Tudor Apartments, where our tour starts. We then move on 150 years to the reign of William and Mary. They also had the builders in, this time under the watchful eye of Sir Christopher Wren — the resulting State Apartments are superb. After lunch you visit the kitchens and discover just how much the Tudors really ate, and have a guided tour of the Georgian rooms and discover how much the Hanoverians all hated each other. There will, of course, be time for tea. You will be heading off home by 4.45p.m.
